Queensland Launches Free Needle-Free Flu Vaccine for Children

Queensland Health has expanded its free flu vaccination program in response to a significant rise in influenza cases across the state this season, which has already seen a 17 per cent increase in reported infections compared with last year.

Health authorities are rolling out a needle-free nasal spray flu vaccine for children aged two to five years, aimed at reducing hospitalisations and making vaccination more comfortable for young children and families.

The vaccine will be available for children aged two to 17, with the government funding it at no cost for those under six. Registered nurses, midwives, pharmacists and Indigenous health practitioners will be able to administer the vaccine, improving accessibility for families across Queensland.

With influenza known to place significant strain on health services during peak periods, health experts are encouraging all eligible residents to get vaccinated and protect themselves, their children and the community.
