A new Olympic-sized swimming pool has officially opened at Beenleigh Aquatic Centre, marking a major milestone for sport and recreation in the City of Logan.
Delivered by Logan City Council, the $24.7 million redevelopment features a 50-metre, eight-lane pool, now the city’s second Olympic-standard facility.
Mayor Jon Raven said the new pool would give local swimmers the chance to train in elite conditions, following in the footsteps of Olympians like Mollie O’Callaghan and Jodie Henry.
Beyond competitive swimming, the upgraded centre offers a range of family-friendly features, including an expanded children’s water play area, shaded seating, barbecues, modern changerooms and improved accessibility.
Sustainability has also been a focus, with solar panels and stormwater harvesting systems incorporated into the design.
The project was jointly funded through the SEQ Liveability Fund, with contributions from local, state and federal governments.
Council says the new facility will serve the growing community for years to come, providing a modern space for families, fitness and future sporting talent. More information on the city’s aquatic facilities is available at: logan.qld.gov.au/sports-fitness-and-aquatic-centres
