Logan Art Shines on National Stage with New Exhibition

A new exhibition co-designed in Logan is set to travel from the city’s local gallery to the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, showcasing First Nations stories, culture and creativity on a national platform.

The exhibition titled ‘Thread: Connecting stories and community explores the relationships between garments, identity, and the histories, labour and knowledge systems of First Nations peoples’, will open at Logan Art Gallery at 5.30pm on Friday, May 1.

Developed through a pilot project led by the National Portrait Gallery in collaboration with Logan-based artists and community members, the exhibition was shaped through a series of consultative workshops held last year. Local creatives were invited to contribute ideas, stories and artistic input to the final works.

Four Logan artists involved in the project will see their work progress to a national audience, with the exhibition set to be displayed at the Canberra gallery from July 4.

The Logan showing will run until June 13, offering residents a chance to experience the collection before it travels.

Logan Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, with free entry for all visitors.
