Major Milestone Reached for New Coomera Hospital

The future Coomera Hospital has reached a major milestone, with the completion of its concept redesign paving the way for expanded healthcare services across the northern Gold Coast.

The updated plans outline a significantly larger hospital than originally proposed, featuring at least 600 beds, a major Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, operating theatres, maternity services and multi-storey parking facilities.

The redesign follows an independent review commissioned by the Queensland Government, which identified the need for greater bed capacity and expanded clinical services to meet the demands of the region’s rapidly growing population.

Under the revised plans, the hospital will include a 12-storey Clinical Services Building housing emergency, maternity, paediatric, renal and mental health services, alongside multiple inpatient units. A separate seven-storey Ambulatory Care Building will provide outpatient clinics, pathology, allied health and education facilities.

Construction will be delivered in stages, with the first stage expected to open as a fully operational 400-bed hospital by 2031. Structural allowances have already been built into the design for a further 200 beds to be added by 2032.

At peak construction, around 1,000 workers are expected to be employed on site.
