Scenic Rim Transport Plan Approved for Growing Region

Scenic Rim Regional Council has endorsed a new Integrated Transport Plan aimed at improving roads, walking paths and cycling networks across the region as population growth continues to accelerate.

The long-term strategy, approved at last week’s Ordinary Meeting, will help guide future infrastructure upgrades and funding priorities for the Scenic Rim’s transport network. The plan includes both a Road Network Plan and an Active Transport Plan focused on safer and more connected walking and cycling routes.

Scenic Rim’s Transport and Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Duncan McInnes said the plan was developed in response to forecasts showing the region’s population could exceed 75,000 by 2041.

“The Scenic Rim is experiencing continued population growth and this will help us meet the needs of residents and visitors well into the future,” Cr McInnes said.

The plan considers population growth, tourism and freight demands, with tourism and agriculture remaining major drivers of the local economy.

Council said the strategy would also strengthen its ability to seek support from State and Federal governments for future projects.

Community consultation played a major role in shaping the plan, with residents helping identify priorities across the region’s 10 key towns and villages.

The Walking Network Plans were partly funded through Queensland’s Walking Local Government Grant Scheme.
