Experienced mental health nurse Emily Foley is preparing to take on a leadership role at the Gold Coast Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) as the facility prepares to welcome its next consumers from July.
Ms Foley will lead the Sandalwood unit as Nurse Unit Manager, bringing more than five years of mental health nursing experience and a Master of Mental Health Nursing to the role.
She said one of the most rewarding aspects of mental health nursing was helping people rebuild confidence, reconnect with the community and work towards recovery beyond hospital care.
The new rehabilitation-focused facility aims to provide a supportive environment for people requiring longer-term mental health treatment and recovery support.
Ms Foley said she was excited by the opportunity to build a new team culture from the ground up, with a strong focus on collaboration, communication and learning.
“My vision is to create an environment where people feel safe to speak up, support one another and continue learning together,” she said.
The SMHRU continues to expand as a key mental health rehabilitation service for the Gold Coast community, with Sandalwood set to begin welcoming consumers from July.
