Free Holiday Fun on Offer Through Active Kids Program

Ipswich children will have the chance to stay active, learn new skills and make new friends these winter school holidays thanks to Ipswich City Council’s free Active Kids program.

Running from June 27 to July 12, the initiative will deliver 69 sport and recreation activities across 15 suburbs, offering families an affordable way to keep children entertained during the school break.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the program was designed to encourage young people to stay active while exploring a wide variety of activities.

“The Active Kids program is all about helping children stay active, try something new and connect with other local kids during the school holidays,” Cr Harding said.

This year’s program includes a mix of returning favourites and new activities, ranging from athletics, mountain bike riding and bush walks to gymnastics, martial arts, ballet, contemporary dance and acrofit.

A strong focus has also been placed on accessibility, with 31 activities delivered in fully accessible formats across six venues throughout the city. Accessible court sports and gym sessions are among the options available.

Sessions cater for children of all ages, from toddlers through to teenagers, with most equipment provided by organisers.

Bookings for the free activities are now open and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Council is encouraging parents and carers to register early and take advantage of the diverse program designed to keep local children active, engaged and having fun throughout the winter holidays.
