A major recruitment drive has brought 83 new nurses to Toowoomba Hospital, strengthening the region’s healthcare workforce as demand for medical services continues to grow.
The nurses are joining the hospital through Darling Downs Health’s Early Career Pathway Program, which supports graduate nurses as they transition into professional practice. All 83 recruits have secured permanent positions, providing long-term stability for the region’s health system.
The intake is being introduced in four separate cohorts throughout March, allowing new staff to gradually settle into their roles while receiving training and support.
The nurses will gain experience across a range of departments, including medical and surgical wards, palliative care, aged care, mental health services and rehabilitation.
The new recruits form part of a broader intake of 163 first-year nurses and midwives joining facilities across the Darling Downs Health network in 2026.
Health Service Chief Executive Annette Scott said the additional staff would help meet the needs of the growing region while maintaining high standards of care.
The group includes a mix of local residents and newcomers relocating to the Darling Downs to begin their healthcare careers.
