Construction has begun on a new $5.9 million clubhouse at Hammel Park in Beenleigh, marking a major boost for local sport and the growing rugby league community.
The Logan City Council project will deliver a modern facility to support the Beenleigh Juniors Rugby League Football Club, which has experienced significant growth in recent years.
Mayor Jon Raven said investing in quality sporting facilities was essential for a rapidly growing city like Logan.
“As one of the fastest growing cities in Australia, our community deserves great facilities,” he said. “Backing grassroots sport helps nurture young talent and strengthens our local clubs.”
The new clubhouse will include a kitchen and canteen, changerooms, offices, a first-aid room, referee facilities, storage areas, spectator amenities and covered viewing spaces. Upgrades will also be made to the existing car park and pedestrian pathways.
Division 12 Councillor Karen Murphy said the improved venue would provide modern, accessible facilities for players, volunteers and spectators.
The project has also received $1 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Investing in Our Communities program and is expected to support junior development and the growing number of female rugby league players in the region.
