Future Uncertain for Toondah Harbour After Developer Withdrawal

Redland City Council will assess the future of the Toondah Harbour precinct following the withdrawal of development partner Walker Group from the long-planned project in Cleveland.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said while the decision was unexpected, Council acknowledged the commercial factors behind the move and remains focused on securing a positive outcome for the community. The site is a key maritime gateway linking the mainland to North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) and has long been earmarked for significant upgrades.

Council will now work closely with the Queensland Government, the precinct’s majority landowner, along with other stakeholders to determine the next steps. Any future plans, the Mayor said, must balance infrastructure needs with environmental considerations and deliver long-term benefits for the growing Redlands Coast community.

Walker Group had been involved in the project since 2015, following an extensive expression of interest process. Council and Redland Investment Corporation thanked the company for its years of investment and planning efforts.

Despite the setback, Council maintains the harbour remains a priority, with the ageing facility widely considered overdue for renewal as demand on the region’s transport and tourism infrastructure continues to grow.
