Hope Island Drug Arrest Follows Early Morning Police Intercept

A Beenleigh man is facing multiple drug and driving charges after police intercepted a vehicle during an early morning licence check at Hope Island on the northern Gold Coast.

Around 5am on 3 May, officers stopped a white Nissan Navara on Hope Island Road, where checks allegedly revealed the driver was disqualified from driving.

Police say the situation escalated when the man was detained for a drug search and allegedly obstructed officers before attempting to flee across the road. He was arrested following a short foot chase.

During the search, detectives allegedly located methylamphetamine concealed on the man, along with drug utensils. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a large sum of cash.

The 32-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with a range of offences, including possession of dangerous drugs in significant quantities, possession of suspected proceeds of crime, driving while disqualified, possession of drug utensils and obstructing police.

He is due to reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 6 June.

Police continue to urge the public to report suspicious drug activity as investigations into illicit drug supply on the Gold Coast continue.
