The festive season delivered an unexpected bonus for a Logan woman who has welcomed the new year with a life-changing win after pocketing $100,000 from an instant scratch-it ticket.
The winning ticket was purchased at Nextra Mount Ommaney News inside Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre, but the lucky winner didn’t discover her prize until early January. The $5 Merry Christmas scratch-it had been given to her as a Christmas gift and sat unscratched until 6 January.
Speaking with officials from The Lott, the woman said the moment she realised she had won was almost surreal.
“I didn’t know I’d won at first, and then suddenly it clicked,” she said. “I just couldn’t believe it.”
She said she plans to save most of the money and share some of her winnings with family members to help them out.
