Logan Workshops Help Residents Prepare for Emergencies

Logan City Council is encouraging seniors and residents with additional needs to prepare for future disasters through a series of free emergency planning workshops across the city.

The Person-Centred Emergency Planning (PCEP) workshops are designed to help vulnerable residents create personalised emergency plans for events such as floods, storms and heatwaves.

Logan Mayor Jon Raven said the workshops would help people stay safe and independent during emergencies, particularly those with complex medical or support needs.

“Disasters don’t always affect everyone the same,” Mayor Raven said.

Workshop participants will receive support to identify important needs including medications, mobility aids, medical equipment, transport arrangements and evacuation requirements. The sessions also cover practical considerations such as hearing aids, CPAP machines, heart monitors and the extra time some residents may require to leave safely during emergencies.

The workshops will be held at Logan West Library, Logan North Library and Beenleigh Library between late May and June. Each workshop runs across two sessions from 10am to 1pm, allowing participants time to develop and refine their plans.

Council said the initiative aims to reduce risks during emergencies and help residents avoid unnecessary hospital visits caused by lack of preparation.
