Teen Charged After Alleged Stolen Car Chase Across South-East

A 14-year-old boy has been charged after a stolen car allegedly evaded police across Brisbane and the Gold Coast before being abandoned in bushland at Currumbin Valley.

Police allege a red 2007 Hyundai i30 was stolen from an Upper Coomera property sometime after 10.30pm on Sunday night.

Around 2.10am Monday, officers spotted two males travelling in the stolen vehicle at Northgate in Brisbane’s north. Police attempted to intercept the car, however it will be alleged the driver sped away along Toombul Road in a dangerous manner.

The vehicle was later tracked south to Currumbin Valley, where the two occupants allegedly abandoned the car on Baines Road and fled into nearby bushland on foot.

Dog Squad officers searched the area and located a 14-year-old Upper Coomera boy hiding at a nearby property around 5.30am.

The teenager has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and was due to appear before the Southport Children’s Court on 11 May.

Police are continuing investigations to locate the second male allegedly involved.

The incident forms part of Operation Yankee Forge, a statewide initiative targeting vehicle theft, break-ins and other high-harm offences.
