Scenic Rim Regional Council has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding agritourism camping opportunities, while emphasising the need for safety, sustainability and responsible land use.
A recent council report highlighted progress over the past year, including industry consultation, compliance efforts and collaboration with government and tourism partners. The council has endorsed further work to create practical pathways for camping experiences on privately owned rural land.
Tourism and Regional Events Portfolio Councillor Jennifer Sanders said the Scenic Rim’s growing popularity as a visitor destination made it essential to strike the right balance between economic growth and risk management.
“Agritourism plays a vital role in our local economy and identity, and there is strong interest from landholders looking to diversify through camping experiences,” she said.
The sector contributed around $274 million to the local economy and supported more than 2,300 jobs in the year to September 2025.
However, council acknowledged challenges remain, particularly around planning, disaster risks and site suitability, with some locations prone to flooding or bushfire.
Council will continue working with landowners and industry groups to ensure future agritourism developments are safe, well-managed and beneficial for both visitors and the wider community.
