Ipswich is Queensland’s fastest growing city

Ipswich has officially claimed the title of Queensland’s fastest growing city, with new figures revealing strong population growth driven by lifestyle appeal and economic opportunity.

Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the city’s population increased by 3.5 per cent in the year to June 2025, outpacing all other local government areas in the state.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the milestone reflects the city’s growing reputation as a place where people and families can thrive.

More than 9,100 new residents moved to Ipswich during the period, pushing the population beyond 275,000. Growth has been particularly strong in key areas such as Springfield, Ripley Valley and the western corridor.

The suburb of Ripley recorded the state’s highest growth rate at 15.4 per cent, while Springfield Lakes was named Queensland’s most populous suburb.

Mayor Harding said Ipswich’s expanding $15 billion economy, growing at 4.2 per cent, continues to attract investment and new residents.

With the population expected to exceed 500,000 by 2046, council is calling for continued support from state and federal governments to deliver essential infrastructure to keep pace with rapid growth.
