The City of Gold Coast is upgrading bus stops across the region to improve accessibility and meet the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT). In partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads(Translink Division), the project aims to make boarding and exiting buses safer and easier for all passengers, including people with disabilities, seniors, and families.
Bus stops are being upgraded into four categories: minimum, regular, intermediate, and premium, depending on location and demand. Each type includes essential features such as concrete hardstand areas, tactile ground surface indicators (TGSI), seating, and clear signage, with higher-tier stops also offering shelters, bins, and additional amenities.
These improvements are being rolled out across suburban, rural, and high-traffic areas, particularly near major destinations like shopping centres and health facilities. The upgrades support a more inclusive, connected transport network and encourage greater use of public transport across the Gold Coast community.
