Logan Poets Invited to Compete in Australian Poetry Slam Heat

Aspiring poets and spoken word performers are being encouraged to take centre stage later this month when Logan Libraries hosts a local heat of the 2026 Australian Poetry Slam.

The free event will be held on Friday, July 31, at the Wilbur Street Youth Centre in partnership with Word Travels, giving participants aged 13 and over the opportunity to perform their original work before a live audience.

Competitors will have just two minutes on the microphone to impress the crowd and judges, with the top two performers earning a place in the Queensland state finals of the prestigious national competition.

Internationally recognised spoken word artist and poet Huda the Goddess will host the evening as master of ceremonies and perform as the event’s special guest, adding to what promises to be an inspiring celebration of creativity and storytelling.

Doors will open at 6.30pm, allowing performers time to register before the slam begins at 7pm.

The Australian Poetry Slam has become one of the country’s leading platforms for emerging writers and performers, encouraging people from all backgrounds to share their voices through poetry.

Entry is free, however bookings are essential and can be made through the Logan Libraries website at loglib.org/poetry.
