Man Charged After Alleged Armed Robbery Spree Across Gold Coast

A 22-year-old Guanaba man has been charged following an alleged series of armed robberies across the Gold Coast on Sunday.

Police allege the incidents began between 11.30am and 11.40am when the man attempted to steal two vehicles from members of the public in a shopping centre car park on Brisbane Road at Labrador.

It is further alleged he entered a nearby business armed with a knife, threatened an employee and stole the keys to a grey Toyota Yaris before driving away.

Investigators claim the man then targeted two liquor stores, at Ormeau and Coomera, as well as a tobacconist at Coomera, where he allegedly threatened staff with a knife and stole cash, alcohol and cigarettes.

Police tracked the stolen Toyota Yaris to Currumburra Road at Ashmore, where officers arrested the man without incident at about 2.08pm.

The Guanaba man has been charged with 22 offences, including six counts of armed robbery, six counts of possessing Schedule 4 or Schedule 8 medicines, three counts of entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and single counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence and obstructing police.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, July 6.
