Man Charged After Alleged Hit-and-Run at Main Beach

A man has been charged following an alleged hit-and-run incident that left a young woman seriously injured at Main Beach on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to a carpark on Waterways Drive around 9pm on May 2, after reports a 23-year-old woman from Seven Hills had been struck by a grey Ford Ranger. The vehicle allegedly left the scene before police arrived.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Police later identified the driver as a 40-year-old Nerang man, who has been charged with driving while a relevant drug was present in his saliva. He is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on June 23.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
