New Five-Year Plan Charts Ipswich’s Future Growth

Ipswich City Council has unveiled a new five-year Corporate Plan designed to guide the city through a period of significant growth while maintaining its reputation as a family-friendly and liveable community.

The Corporate Plan 2026–2031 outlines council’s strategic priorities as Ipswich continues to expand. With the city’s population projected to grow from around 270,000 residents today to more than 533,000 by 2046, council says careful planning will be essential to manage future demands on infrastructure, services and community facilities.

Mayor Teresa Harding said the plan focuses on delivering value-for-money services while ensuring growth remains sustainable and well-sequenced.

“Our responsibility is to manage the challenges and harness the opportunities that come with being Queensland’s fastest-growing city,” Mayor Harding said.

The plan is built around four key themes: Vibrant and Growing; Safe, Inclusive and Creative; Natural and Sustainable; and A Trusted and Leading Organisation. Together, these priorities aim to support economic development, community wellbeing, environmental stewardship and transparent governance.

Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic said the strategy builds on the achievements of the previous council plan while providing clear and measurable goals for the years ahead.

Council will report annually on progress toward its targets, allowing residents to track how the plan is being implemented as Ipswich continues its transformation into one of Australia’s fastest-growing regional cities.
