Nurse Helps Shape New Era of Care at Robina Hospital

Creating compassionate and supportive environments for older adults has been the driving force behind Nurse Unit Manager Tracey Miller’s career, and now she is helping lead a major new chapter in aged care services at Robina Hospital.

With 13 years of nursing experience, Tracey is overseeing preparations for the refurbished H2 East ward, a purpose-designed 20-bed facility that will house both an Acute Cognitive Unit and an Acute Geriatric Unit. The upgraded ward is expected to welcome patients later this year.

Tracey said her passion for working with older adults stems from the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives while supporting families through challenging times.

“I really value the life stories, resilience and perspectives older adults bring,” she said.

The new ward has been specifically designed to meet the needs of older patients, particularly those living with dementia or cognitive impairment. Features include improved lighting, reduced noise levels, clear wayfinding, secure walking paths and carefully selected artwork aimed at creating a calm and therapeutic environment.

Tracey said the facility represents an important investment in the Gold Coast community, providing specialised care closer to home in a setting focused on dignity, comfort and wellbeing.

The purpose-built design will also allow nurses, doctors and allied health professionals to work collaboratively in an environment tailored to the complex needs of older adults, helping improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
