Redlands Reflect: One Year On From Cyclone Alfred

This month marks one year since ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred struck the Redlands Coast, causing widespread damage and disruption. Despite the challenges, the community has shown remarkable resilience. Local volunteers, community groups, and emergency services came together to support vulnerable residents, clear debris, and rebuild homes and local infrastructure. Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the anniversary is a moment to reflect not only on the hardships, but on how neighbours united to help each other. In the past year, the region has strengthened disaster preparedness, with faster response times, improved communication, and better support networks for those in need. The recovery process has also fostered stronger connections across the Redlands, highlighting the community’s ability to face adversity together. As the next storm season approaches, residents are being encouraged to stay prepared, but also to take pride in how far the community has come in rebuilding, supporting one another, and growing stronger together.
