Scenic Rim Regional Council has launched its first major exhibition for 2026 at The Centre Beaudesert, featuring a vibrant mural of 100 artworks by Beaudesert State School Year 6 students. The exhibition brings to life “Mr Chippa the Woodblock Carver of Bagru”, a children’s book by Australian artist Lee FullARTon, who spent years researching traditional woodblock printing in Bagru, India.
Lee’s work explores centuries-old techniques, travel journal paintings, Kathputli puppets, and cultural stories from the woodblock artisans she met during residencies in India. The students’ artworks reflect their own perspectives of Beaudesert and its community, inspired by Lee’s remarkable journey.
The opening event on Saturday 14 March features an ‘in conversation’ session with Lee FullARTon and guest speaker Dr Natasha Narain, with light refreshments provided. The free exhibition runs until 6 June 2026, open Tuesday–Friday 10 am–4 pm and Saturday 10 am–2 pm.
