Stargazing Night Invites Locals to Explore the Cosmos

Residents are being invited to look skyward later this month, with a special after-dark stargazing session set to take place at the historic Mayes Cottage in Kingston.

The adults-only event will run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Thursday, May 21, offering participants a chance to explore the night sky in a relaxed and unique setting. Guided by local astronomy enthusiasts, attendees will learn to identify constellations, planets and other celestial features visible above the heritage-listed site.

Organisers say the session is ideal for beginners and experienced stargazers alike, with telescopes available to use on the night. Participants are also welcome to bring their own equipment.

The evening promises a casual, interactive atmosphere, with opportunities for shared discoveries and hands-on learning under the stars. Light refreshments will be provided, and guests are encouraged to dress comfortably for outdoor conditions.

The event offers a rare opportunity to combine history, nature and astronomy, all in one memorable evening experience.

Session places cost $15 each and are limited. Bookings are essential and can be made via lccqld.com/starsatmayes
