Thousands Get Moving with Ipswich’s Active and Healthy Program

Ipswich residents are embracing healthier lifestyles in record numbers, with nearly 35,000 people taking part in the city’s Active and Healthy Program in 2025.

A new report from Ipswich City Council shows the initiative attracted 33,781 participants across a wide range of activities, including 48 weekly sessions, nutrition workshops, cycling programs and school holiday events for children.

Mayor Teresa Harding said the program’s continued growth highlighted its value to the community. “This is an outstanding result that reflects our commitment to helping residents stay active, connected and healthy,” she said.

The program caters to all ages and abilities, offering options such as low-impact exercise, mums and bubs sessions, children’s activities and healthy eating workshops.

Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 81 per cent reporting improved physical health and 68 per cent noting better mental wellbeing. Satisfaction ratings also increased, with 90 per cent of users rating the program four out of five or higher.

Council said social connection, accessibility and affordability were key factors behind the program’s success.

With strong demand for even more activities, Ipswich City Council plans to expand the program in 2026, continuing to support the health and wellbeing of the growing community.
