Police Urge Motorists to Boost Vehicle Security

Gold Coast motorists are being reminded to take simple precautions to help protect their vehicles, with Queensland Police urging drivers to stay vigilant as vehicle theft methods continue to evolve.

Queensland Police Service (QPS) says advances in technology have changed the way some vehicles are targeted, making it more important than ever for owners to combine modern security features with practical everyday habits.

Police say prevention remains the best defence against vehicle theft. Simple measures such as locking vehicles at all times, parking in secure locations and using additional security devices can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

Motorists are encouraged to park in locked garages or behind secure gates where possible, keep vehicle keys safely inside the home and consider storing keyless entry fobs in signal-blocking pouches to prevent electronic interference.

Visible deterrents such as steering wheel locks and wheel clamps can also discourage opportunistic thieves, while immobilisers, GPS tracking devices and alarm systems provide extra layers of protection.

Police say combining multiple security measures makes vehicles less attractive targets and gives owners greater peace of mind.

The Queensland Police Service also encourages residents and businesses to access its online crime prevention resources for further advice on protecting vehicles and other valuable property from theft.
