Scenic Rim Budget Prioritises Roads, Waste and Community Projects

Scenic Rim Regional Council has adopted its 2026–27 Budget, committing to a $94.7 million capital works program focused on roads, waste management and community infrastructure despite ongoing financial pressures.

The Budget includes a $123.8 million operating program and nearly $95 million in capital works, with $45.3 million funded through external grants. Of that, $29 million will be directed towards infrastructure recovery following Cyclone Alfred and the November 2025 severe weather event.

Mayor Tom Sharp said the Budget prioritises projects that support the region’s growth and resilience, despite voting against its adoption at Council’s Special Meeting. He said the final Budget reflected Council’s decision and outlined key investments for the coming financial year.

Major projects include $3.35 million towards the Beaudesert Police Citizens Youth Club and Indoor Sports Facility, $7.2 million for upgrades to Kerry Road and $2.68 million for improvements to Veresdale Scrub Road. Funding has also been allocated for the Gallery Walk car park at Tamborine Mountain, sports facilities in Beaudesert and Boonah, and planning for the new Taylor Bridge.

Waste management remains a significant challenge, with major compliance works planned at Bromelton Landfill. Residents on the minimum general rate will see an average overall increase of 10.3 per cent in rates and charges, including higher waste, transport infrastructure and environmental levies.
